About Atlantic Coast Life
Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Company was founded in 1925 by Y. W. Scarborough and J. W. Orvin. From the beginning, the company developed a reputation in its community for fulfilling its obligations and paying claims quickly. Atlantic Coast Life began in South Carolina and still has its headquarters there, and by 1978 the company employed over 250 people at 15 offices across the state.
In the nearly 100 years since its founding, the company has further expanded to offer a variety of products, including annuities to help Americans safeguard their financial security in retirement and preneed life insurance for end-of-life expenses. Atlantic Coast Life also offers Medicare supplemental insurance to cover expenses not paid for by Medicare.
According to the company’s website, Atlantic Coast Life’s plans for the future are “to continue to nurture and improve our Preneed and Annuity distribution systems and to protect all of our stakeholders by continuing to be a ‘Beacon of Integrity’ in all of our dealings with clients, agents and producers.”
Credit Ratings
Credit ratings, also known as financial strength ratings, are issued by independent rating agencies. The scores give consumers a snapshot of the overall financial wellness of an annuity provider. The better the credit rating a provider receives, the more confident you can feel that the company will uphold their end of an annuity contract.
Atlantic Coast Life has been rated “B++” by the AM Best credit rating agency. This score categorizes the company’s financial strength as “Good.” The rating was issued in 2017 and considered factors such as the company’s improved balance sheet and greater financial flexibility.
Annuities Offered by Atlantic Coast Life
Atlantic Coast Life Insurance offers a broad array of annuities to help customers choose the product that’s right for them. These products can be divided into two main categories: fixed indexed annuities and multi-year guaranteed annuities.
Fixed Indexed Annuities
A fixed indexed annuity earns interest on a lump sum premium based on two factors. There’s the guaranteed fixed interest rate and the variable rate based on the performance of an equity market index like the S&P 500.
The fixed indexed annuities Atlantic Coast Life sells are designed to protect and grow the holder’s principal while reaping the benefits of strong market growth during the annuity’s accumulation period. Atlantic Coast Life offers four fixed indexed annuity products, which can be customized by the annuity purchaser to best fit their personal financial needs.
- Accumulation Protector Plus℠
- Guaranteed Income
- Income Navigator
- Retirement Plus Multiplier℠
Multi-Year Guaranteed Annuities
Multi-year guaranteed annuities (MYGAs) are a type of fixed annuity which accumulates interest based on a fixed rate that’s guaranteed for the entire life of the annuity’s contract. This is different from a traditional fixed annuity, in which the interest rate is not locked in for the entire term of the annuity and may change after the first few years of the contract.
Atlantic Coast Life provides three varieties of MYGA products. Each of these annuities can be purchased with terms of five, six, seven, 10 or even 20 years.
