Video Transcript
When it comes to my top tenants of finance, I've got a short list, to share with you. First off, don't be afraid of your finances.
Get as close to them as possible.
Establish a budget. Maintain a budget.
Don't be shy when it comes to this important facet of your life. Plan for the long term.
Show the discipline to put off immediate gratification for longer term benefit.
YOLO, you only live once, is a great acronym, but if you follow that steadfastly, it's gonna be problematic down the road. Another top tenet, limit your non life enhancing debt utilization as much as possible.
If you're looking to buy a home, debt can be really valuable. If you're looking to fund an education, debt makes a lot of sense. Maybe even if you need to get around with a vehicle, it can it can work in your favor. Otherwise, try to stay away from debt. Make sure you understand anything you put your money into.
You should never make an investment that you don't at least understand the basics of and the basic risk profile.
If you need to do some research, take the time. Another top tenet is to invest as early and for as long as possible.
By doing so, you'll capitalize on the power of compound interest, and you'll be able to put yourself in a better spot. A final tenet for you is to diversify your investments, thoughtfully.
If your investment horizon is long, you should be piling your money into growth assets, like stocks.
If your horizon is shorter, you need to be more conservative, and you should be focused on more stable value things, like bonds and annuities.
