Social Security is such an important factor for retirement planning calculations. In fact, as a Certified Financial Planner, I don't think I can do retirement planning without knowing an individual's Social Security benefit. Social Security isn't just a monthly check. Social Security provides inflation adjusted guaranteed lifetime income. So it's very important that you know your spouse or partner's Social Security benefit when you're planning for retirement.
